Double‑decker bus advertising roadshow with outstanding 3D lightbox design
Currently, the topic of double‑decker bus advertising roadshows is becoming a hot search in the media industry as this form is creating a strong impression with a large advertising area, outstanding 3D lightbox design, and lively activation activities that increase attraction.
1. What is advertising on double‑decker buses and why does it create a strong impression?
Advertising on double‑decker buses is an advertising activity with a large and impressive area, combined with a fixed route passing through famous locations in the province or city of operation, or flexible routes depending on each brand’s advertising campaign targeting different customer groups.
The highlight of this advertising form is the ability to create illuminated 3D lightboxes, helping the logo or brand product create a strong impression on viewers. During movement, activation activities such as mini game shows, chill music, or selfie, check‑in can be organized.
2. Advantages of double‑decker bus advertising
-
Large advertising area to freely convey advertising messages, easily creating impressions on viewers.
-
The ability to create impressive 3D lightboxes.
-
Can organize lively activation roadshows, or chill music, etc.
-
The second floor of the bus is airy; people participating in bus rides at night will feel very chill, making it easy to attract many participants for program activation activities.
-
A luxurious form of advertising helps brands affirm their position.
-
Double‑decker buses have routes in famous tourist areas in the operating province or city.
3. Notes when deploying advertising on double‑decker buses
-
A detailed plan is needed regarding ideas, routes, areas, timing, and activation.
-
To advertise on double‑decker buses, you need to apply for an advertising operation permit, so you must prepare necessary documents to apply.
-
The design must be impressive, identify outstanding points to produce reasonable 3D lightboxes such as logo position, product.
-
Plan appropriate supporting staff during the advertising deployment on double‑decker buses to avoid overload or spontaneous activities.
-
Advertising area must not exceed ½ of the total area on the bus in accordance with regulations on advertising on vehicles.
To better understand regulations on advertising on vehicles in general and on double‑decker buses in particular, refer to the two main sections clearly stipulated in Official Letter No. 2310/BVHTTDL‑VHCS and Advertising Law No. 16/2012/QH13, specifically Article 32 of the Advertising Law effective from 1/1/2013 until now.
Clause b, Official Letter No. 2310/BVHTTDL‑VHCS dated June 24, 2013 of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism notes as follows:
“b) From January 01, 2013, the issuance of permits for advertising on boards, signs, banners, screens placed in public places, luminous objects, aerial objects, underwater objects, vehicles, other mobile objects is abolished and replaced by the procedure of receiving notification of advertising product content on billboards and banners. Therefore, according to the provisions of the Advertising Law, no fee is collected for the procedure of receiving notification of advertising product content on billboards and banners.”
Article 32 of the Advertising Law clearly stipulates the permitted scope of advertising based on vehicle area as follows:
“1 – Advertising on vehicles must comply with the provisions of this Law and traffic laws.
It is not allowed to display advertising products on the front, rear, and roof of vehicles. Advertising products must not exceed 50% of each side’s area permitted for advertising on vehicles. Displaying emblems, logos, symbols of vehicle owners or car manufacturers on vehicles must comply with traffic laws.”
Thus, with Clause b of Official Letter No. 2310/BVHTTDL‑VHCS and Article 32 of the Advertising Law on vehicles, we can understand: there is no need to apply for an advertising permit but you must notify advertising to the Department of Culture at the locality where advertising is organized, and no advertising notification fee is charged.
4. 3D lightbox – the most important factor in double‑decker bus advertising campaigns

The 3D lightbox is the most important highlight when advertising on double‑decker buses, especially at night when the lightboxes are lit with LED lights inside, creating great attraction for passersby. However, how to make the lightbox outstanding depends on many factors and notes as follows:
4.1 Design is important!
-
Accurately choose brand images, logos, product or service highlights.
-
The lightbox design needs to be simple, focus on products, services, logos but avoid being fussy.
-
Limit too many words on the lightbox that cause clutter and reduce effectiveness.
-
Creating appropriate effects will help the design be unique, creating impressive experiences for viewers.
4.2 Lightbox colors are also important
When printing lightboxes, colors that are too pale will be greatly affected when LED lights shine from the inside, causing the printed product color and details to become faded.
4.3 Lightbox materials need to be solid and aesthetically pleasing
When we produce lightboxes, we always focus on materials as well as aesthetics, because we clearly understand the importance of lightboxes for the brand and customer image. If the lightbox is not solid, it becomes a negative factor in the advertising campaign, leading to a negative impact on aesthetics. Based on experiences implementing many advertising campaigns, we believe that lightbox material is the key factor to create perfection for product images and brand logos.
5. Combine activation activities to increase attraction when deploying double‑decker bus advertising roadshows

Based on experiences implementing double‑decker bus advertising campaigns for many brands, using mini shows, music, and activation is very effective in creating impressions and leaving good emotions for participants. They will have lasting impressions and memories of the participation moment. Not only that, when conducting mini activations, the program’s virality will be completely natural and widely spread when participants continuously live‑stream their experiences or post selfies on social media.
Therefore, when brands use the communication solution with double‑decker buses, they should maximize this advantage and have a detailed plan suitable for the brand’s campaign:
-
Need a plan for the MC: clearly define the message they need to convey and lead.

-
Build a band of 3–4 members to organize a mini music show.

-
Build 1–2 Mascots to make the program more lively and impressive for participants.
